In light of the statement from the UK Government last evening, supported by the devolved governments, whereby socialising was restricted considerably to the point that the message was clearly for everyone where possible to stay at home.
A statement on the subject was also issued last evening by Scottish Golf, whereby golfing at present is to cease, it must be indicated these are positions that the Lothians GA support for the health and wellbeing of their golfing members.
Therefore, I wish to inform you of the latest position regarding the forthcoming competitions that the Association organise. These are in addition to those already circulated in Issue 2 of our statement updates issued on 18 March 2020.
Champion of Champions and Handicap Matchplay.
The Association has decided to suspend this competition with a view to completing this should time allow, following an improvement in the current position in regard to COVID-19. This will be relayed to the individual players later this morning.
The Association will suspend this competition at present and hope to provide a draw and new dates once the position becomes clearer.
The original date for the Tournament is 2 May 2020, we intend to postpone this with a view to finding a date and venue later in the season where we might be able to play this tournament.
Our next tournaments are the Seniors and Lothians Amateur Championships which do not take place until early July and it is still the intention to play these should restrictions on socialising be eased. However, the Lothians wish to assure everyone that they will not make decisions that are in direct conflict with the advice given by the governments and the national association.
Importantly, they will follow the advice and play their part in attempting to ensure the health and wellbeing of golfers in the Lothians and the wider areas and that the COVID-19 virus can be controlled and eliminated.
