The Lothians team of Aiden Lawson (Bruntsfield Links GS), Hayden Fowler (Bathgate), Oliver Henderson (Bathgate) and Eddie Jackson (Turnhouse) won the Scottish Boys ATC at Hamilton on Sunday. This completed a run of 3 victories for the Lothians which is their second treble in their outstanding record of 14 wins. In addition Aiden Lawson retained the Niagara Trophy for the best individual score (-5) which is the first time that has happened in the 45 years history of the championship.
On a course saturated by significant rainfall in the previous 12 hours the Lothians boys played well in the morning foursomes to lead on 148 with P & K (149), Renfrewshire (150), Fife (151) and North East (153) in close pursuit. Aiden & Eddie, fresh from their tussle leading their teams in the final of the Edinburgh Junior Summer League, where they finished All Square, teamed up on this occasion and finished 5 over par. Hayden, the Lothians Junior champion, teamed up with long-time friend and fellow Bathgate player Oliver, and produced one of the best scores of the morning at 1 over par.
In the afternoon singles the players started on the 13th tee, still eating their lunch out of a carry-out box, but got off to a tremendous start with Oliver and Eddie (-3) and Aiden (-2) by the time they reached the 1st tee. The rain then got worse and the course got increasingly difficult however Aiden excelled in finishing in first place on (-5) and Oliver held his ground to finish second on (-3). Eddie secured the third counting score (+2). We will not mention Hayden’s score and just remember his major contribution to that great morning foursomes score. A true team effort nurtured by Team Captain Colin Ramsay, ably assisted by Scott Macpherson.
