Of the 30 Scots in the field of 144 for the Scottish Boys Open Stroke Play Championship this week there were 11 from Lothians clubs. This event attracts many youngsters from all over Europe and is very popular to the extent that there are 142 players on the waiting list!!! (The qualifying handicap was 0.4 or better) After two days of stroke play over the challenging West Kilbride course the top 40 players went on to play a final 36 holes today. The cut for the last day was 4 over par. Aiden Lawson (Bruntsfield Links GS), retained his overnight 3rd place to finish on 6 under par, with Kiron Gribble (Dunbar) moving up to 5th place on level par and Fraser Walters (Craigielaw) up to 7th place on 2 over par. Kai Laing (Broomieknowe), and Luca Smith (Baberton) dropped down a bit on the final day. The event was won by Miles Wennestam, from Switzerland who was 10 under par with Oli Blackadder (Deeside) 3 shots behind. All the scores can be seen on the SGL website. Although some will be disappointed with their performance it is none the less a great experience to be playing in such a low handicap international field.
