Mixed fortunes for the 5 Lothians boys on the final day at the Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship

Not for the first time in recent years the international field in the Scottish  Boys Stroke Play Championship faced brutal conditions, especially over the first day, at Irvine Golf Club. Only 33 Scots (22%) were low enough to qualify to play in the field of 144 of whom 12 were from Lothians clubs. After 2 days the leading score of 141 (-1) from Frenchman Alexander Godin was exceptional. Lothians Area team mates James Wood (Bathgate) and Aiden Lawson (West Links Juniors) had steady rounds to sit in 12th place at 147 (+5) but Kiron Gribble (Dunbar) and Dominic McGlinchey (The Renaissance) had to fight back from 81 and 80 respectively to finish on 149 and 151 to get inside the cut of 152. Cameron Mukherjee (Loretto School) was a bit more consistent with his score of 151.

Over the final 36 holes Cameron was the only player to break par in both rounds and ended up as the leading Scot in 4th place with a score of 7 over par just 4 shots behind eventual winner, Louka Morin (France) (+3). His final round of 69 squeezed out fellow Frenchman Alex Godin (+4) with William Partner (England) (+6) in 3rd place. Aiden Lawson was our second best performer with good scores of 72 and 74 to move up to 8th position (+9). It was a tough day for James, Dominic and Kiron who will no doubt learn from the experience and live to fight another day.
