East Lothian retain Winter League Trophy

Winning East joint captains Benn McLeod & Kenny Glen with John Hutchin (Fife GA)

Bad weather lead to the first 2 Winter League matches at Glencorse and Burntisland being postponed but after matches at Craigielaw and The Glen things are finely poised going into the last round at Kinghorn yesterday. With all four teams blending youth and experience in their selections  East Lothian retained the trophy in grand style with what turned out in the end to be a resounding 4.5 to 0.5 win against West. Angus Carrick & James Morgan, the two Scottish Squad members in the East team, set them well on the way with their 6 & 5 win. The other matches however were all in the balance with one going to the 17th green and the other 3 all finishing at the 18th. That quirky blind par 3 saw several swings of fortune Including Benn McLeod and Stuart Blair finishing 2, 3 to come back from 2 down with 2 to play and the youngsters Jake Collingswood and Kiron Gribble also winning the last 2 holes to finish 1 up. In the other match Fife took advantage of being on their home patch and were always in the driving seat against Midlothian who none-the-less are beginning to build confidence in this event. The scores can be seen by clicking here. Kinghorn was a new experience for most of the players but it was in good condition despite the recent heavy rain with the greens particularly good after the long winter. There was also a warm welcome in the clubhouse and from the Fife executive members.
