The final of the Seniors Inter District Championship, sponsored by Clerwood Consultants Ltd, held at Binny Golf Club today, was won by Swanston Golf Club. The winners of the Edinburgh Seniors League had a keenly contested match against Uphall, the Linlithgowshire Seniors League winners, in the 3rd playing of this new championship. The match was finely balanced after 6 holes with 4 matches all square and Uphall just 1 up in the fifth match. The course was in great condition but the fast greens, with their challenging contours, were testing the players considerably. Swanston had edged ahead after 12 holes but there was only one hole in it in 3 matches, and one was all square. The first 2 matches went to Swanston but the last 3 could have gone either way and all ended on the 18th green. Swanston snatched the last match by one hole avoiding the other two, which had finished all square, having to go up the 19th hole in search of a result. Everyone enjoyed the match, and the course, and many of those that had not played it before are determined to return with their friends. Many thanks to Binny for hosting the event and to Captain Michael Newlands for attending during the day. It was also good to see sub committee members Stewart Kerr (Edinburgh) and Willie Bell (Linlithgowshire) on hand to spur on their teams.
