Lothians narrowly beaten in Boys Area Team Championship

The Lothians Boys team of Cameron Mukherjee, Samuel Mukherjee, Josh Beveridge, and Lothians Boys Champion Fergus Brown made a brave attempt to emulate the great win by the Men's team in the Boys Area Team Championship being played at Dullatur.

In the morning foursomes the Lothians sent out the brother partnership with Josh Beveridge and Fergus Brown pairing up after them. However, it was a disappointing start in the morning with the Lothians team recording a joint +17 score which left them trailing by 7 shots to the early leaders Ayrshire and lying 9th overall. However, a real spirited performance by all four players in the afternoon singles found them creeping closer to their main rivals and the ATC double still very much a possibility.

With three of the four scores counting in the afternoon, Josh Beveridge was the Lothians top performer in the singles with a level Par 70, while Samuel Mukherjee contributed a 73 and his brother, Cameron, the reigning Scottish Boys’ Under-14 champion, posted a 75 to see the Lothians team leapfrog into second place in the team standings ahead of the North East and Lanarkshire.

However, it was a strong Ayrshire team that held their nerve to record their first victory in 14 years at this level, and the Lothians congratulate them on their victory. The Lothians Boys took the silver medals and they can be proud of their performances on what is a difficult course to play. Maybe next year boys, and hopefully we will not see a clash of dates with outside competitions which hampered the potential field this time round.
