Champion of Champions
Graham Davidson beat Ben Alexander 3/1
This is Graham's 4th victory in this event and the 2nd success here at Archerfield. This was a close game with never more than a hole between them over the first 12 holes with Graham pulling away with birdies at 14th and 15th to be 2 up and when Ben took 4 at the short 17th the match was over.
David Gilroy beat Colin McElhinney 2/1
David turned 1 up and when he won 10,11, and 12 to be 4 up everything was looking good at that point. But Colin had other ideas and won the 13th with a 3, the 14th with a net eagle 2, and also the 15th to be 1 down with 3 to play. Colin found trouble off the tee at 16 to go back to 2 down with 2 to play and a halve in 4 at 17 was good enough for David to take the title.
The Champion of Champions and the Handicap Matchplay competitions have now reached the Final stages.
Congratulations go to Graham Davidson (Winterfield) who managed to get home after a well contested match winning 3&2, also to Ben Alexander (Duddingston) who has reached his first final after his opponent Stuart McLaren required to retire injured.
In the Handicap Matchplay event, both matches were evenly poised and played up the 18th. David Gilroy (Corstorphine 8.30 Club) managed to win the last hole to progress by a 2 holes margain and in the other Semi Final, it took an extra hole to allow Colin McElhinney (Duddingston) to progress to the final stage.
Both Finals take place at Archerfield Fidra Links on Wednesday, 14 August 2019 with the first match teeing off at 4.40 with the other final 10 minutes after.
Congratulations to all players who have reached the Semi Finals Finals of the Champion of Champions and Handicap Matchplay.
The Competitions started back in late March and culminate with the Semi Finals and Finals taking place at Archerfield next week with matches being played on Monday, 12 August and Wednesday, 14 August respectively.
In the Champions of Champions, Graham Davidson is seeking his fourth win in this competition with all three of the other semi finalists seeking to inscribe their name on trophy for the first time.
The Handicap Matchplay will see a new name on the trophy with all four players seeking to get over the finishing line for the first time in this competition.
We wish all players a successful match and trust that the spirit of golf is at the forefront of all matches.
