 LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION

The Lothian Golf Association (LGA) is a constituted body and is part of Scottish Golf Ltd.  Scottish Golf Ltd. (SGL) is the amalgamated governing authority for amateur golf in Scotland and is made up of 606 clubs, 15 Ladies Counties and 16 Men’s Areas of which Lothians is the largest in terms of member clubs and players. Our 70 Affiliated Clubs have a male membership of circa 26,500 as well as a substantial membership of ladies and juniors. There are also 36 Societies representing a wide range of interests such as banking, insurance, building and service industries, former pupil associations and a host of small local clubs with histories going back well over 100 years.

The LGA organises a number of high level championships, competitions and matches on behalf of the male golfers in the Lothians as well as organising the South East District Championship. The LGA is responsible for selecting teams to represent the Lothians in national competitions both at senior and junior level which is often the players ‘stepping stone’ to international selection. In order to develop young golfers in the Lothians the LGA runs an extensive winter coaching programme for juniors who have been nominated by their clubs as their most promising golfers. The LGA also works closely with their affiliated clubs and societies in representing their interests at SGL.

The Lothians Golf Association is seeking nominations for membership of the Executive Committee at their AGM on Thursday, 4th March 2021.

As well as the posts of President and Vice President there are three executive posts available, all have a time span of 3 years. However, one current executive member is seeking re-election.

We seek individuals with enthusiasm for golf and its administration and are particularly keen to strengthen our Executive in the fields of Championships and Competitions and as a General Member of Council.

All such nominations must be in writing signed by the Proposer, the Seconder and the Nominee, all of whom must be members of a member Club or Affiliated Society. Application forms can be obtained from the secretary.

They should submit a short CV supporting their nomination all as described in Procedure Guidance Note 1 (Appointment of Executive members). Procedure Guidance Note 2 deals with the election of the President and Vice President. Copies of these are held by your club secretary and appear on our website under the ‘About Us’ tab and following the link – Officials – You will see the Role Descriptions and Guidance Notes on the left of that page,. The ‘Member of Executive’ Role Description gives the basic remit and the Convenor – Championships and Competitions is also highlighted.

Applications must be lodged with the secretary, David Doig, either by post or electronic mail by Noon on Thursday, 4 February 2021.
