Founded in 1853, Tantallon Golf Club play on the famous North Berwick West Links course. This is a golfing experience not found anywhere else, with blind holes, drives over walls and burns, shots over the bay and bunkers deep enough for the golfer to disappear from view. Many of the holes have been copied by designers all over the world, including the 376 yard 14th, named 'Perfection', and the 192 yard 15th called 'Redan'. All the holes have fascinating names such as Mizzentop, Bos'ns Locker, the Pit and Linkhouse.

In its early years Tantallon instigated the first interclub golf tournament in East Lothian, played at Gullane in September 1864 and over the years, Tantallon has played in many interclub matches, the most notable being a series of matches against Royal Liverpool dating back to 1881.

The Hoylake golfers were instrumental in resurrecting the Amateur Championship in 1885, and Tantallon was among the twenty-six Clubs which contributed to the purchase of the Amateur Championship trophy. It was often said that the date for the Amateur Championship could not be fixed without first consulting the Tantallon and Hoylake clubs.

Golfers at Tantallon have in subsequent years continued to represent the Club with distinction in a variety of competitions, most recently winning the 2019/2020 East Lothian Winter League Trophy. The Wemyss County Cup, the oldest double foursomes competition in the world has been won twenty one times by the Club since 1870, most recently in 2012.
