Hugh Cuthbertson and Eddie Gray discussed the proposal with various golfers in the Buckstone Estate, and the response was so encouraging that in March 1968 a meeting was called of all the interested parties with a view to forming a Club. All those who attended the meeting were in favour of the suggestion and thus Buckstone Golf Club was founded. To join the club, you had to have stayed in the Buckstone Estate and this remains a condition of membership to this day.
There were 13 original members. This has increased over the years and we currently have 52 members where the majority compete in competitions and outings. Mr Eddie Gray, the only surviving founder member, is now an Honorary Member of the club.
We play a bi-annual match against Buckstone Golfing Society for the Ross Weir Buckstane Trophy.
We play three outings a season (Spring, Summer and Autumn) on courses in and around Edinburgh. The best combined scores from 2 out of 3 outings decides our Dell Cup Winner (Handicap) and Court Cup Winner (Scratch).
The club holds Summer and Winter Singles Competitions, Plate Competition (members with handicaps of 10 and above), Club Championship and Summer Foursomes. We also hold a Putting Competition in August with a social event afterwards.
Our Plate Champion competes in the Lothians Handicap Matchplay and our Club Champion plays in the Champion of Champions Competition.
We enter the Sivewright Quaich, which we won in 2013 & 2016. Our home ties are played at Mortonhall GC where most of the club are members.
We hold our Annual Dinner, AGM and Prize-giving in March each year to celebrate our members’ successes.
We recently celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a weekend away playing Blairgowrie and Ladybank and held social events throughout the year. There were also events to celebrate our 25th, 30th & 40th anniversaries.
