LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION HANDICAP MATCH PLAY
RULES OF THE COMPETITION

1. All ties to be played over 18 holes and from the medal tees. Players must hold a National Handicap between 9.6 & 28.4 at the time of entry. It is suggested that the loser pays any appropriate green fee or guest fee due.

2. Ties must be played off current handicap Index on or before the stipulated dates. Before starting play, players should exhibit proof of their current handicap index, calculate their Course Handicap using the host venues table and it is the difference of the two that is used for play based on the stroke differential of 95% to agree the strokes given or received.

3. In the event of a tie being all square after 18 holes extra holes must be played immediately, until a winner is determined. Stroke allowance, strokes should be taken in accordance with the Handicap Stroke Index of the host course.

4. Match Play Conditions:
The Competitor who is (first named given in the draw) will have the choice of venue. The responsibility of arranging the tie lies with both players and a choice of two dates must be given, both of which must be at least four days apart and one must be a weekend date, and must not be in the same week. A contact list of all players will be published to enable contact to be made between players.

5. If a ruling on local rules is required the players concerned are asked to consult the Secretary or a
Committee Member of the Club at which the tie is being played. Any other dispute must be referred to the Tournament Committee of the Lothians Golf Association whose decision shall be final. Local rules which are in force will be observed by players.

6. Should a player, for any reason, be unable to carry through a tie within the stipulated period, then he must scratch and award the tie to his opponent, giving notice to his opponent and the Secretary of the Lothians Golf Association that he is doing so. No extensions will be allowed.

7. As soon as the tie has been played, the winner must post the result using the “contact” function in the ‘about us’ tab on the Lothians Golf Association website.

8. All results must be posted within 2 days of the last date in any round.
Both players will be eliminated, and a bye given to the opponents in the next round if not posted.

9. Prizes will be awarded to the losing Finalist and Semi Finalists. The winner will also become the holder for one year of the Tournament Trophy. A player who withdraws from the final stages of the competition will have their prize money withheld unless they provide a reasonable explanation for their absence.
10. There is no limit on the age of the entrant. Should the player be under 18 at the time of playing a match he and his parent/carer should agree, at the time of entry, to comply with the LGA Safeguarding Procedures. This will involve completing appropriate forms. Clubs, at the time of entry, should contact the LGA Secretary for further information.

The Semi Finals & Final matches will be played at a host venue selected by the Association.

These matches are normally played on a consecutive Tuesday and Thursday of the same week in August. Dates of which are detailed on the Lothians website page for the competition.
