Ongoing COVID-19 situation – Financial - Issue 4
During what are extraordinary and difficult times for everyone involved in golf whether you are an employee, member, club professional or associated to your club via services you provide, the current situation is extremely difficult on a financial footing for most clubs.
The Lothians GA appreciate the difficult circumstances our clubs are facing and will be discussing what level of support we might be able to offer our clubs. Despite the fact that we might be considering very small sums of money against the wider issues that clubs are currently facing, nonetheless we feel it is what our clubs might expect of us.
The difficult part in all of this is the uncertainty of how long the current situation will last. The Lothians have undertaken to constantly review their programme of events and this has been circulated to our clubs previously. Like you, we hope that the situation will improve so that we can get back to golf, and even catch up on some of the events that have been postponed.
The main thrust of my contact is to assure clubs that we are keeping the financial aspects under review along with everything else, and will update you within a matter of
weeks.
We have written to Scottish Golf seeking an indication as to what they are currently considering in regard to potential return of Affiliation Fees for the current year. I am sure that you will all be tracking what level of government assistance you can reach out for. Some of our member clubs will be eligible for grants, although unfortunately the majority will not be able to claim under the provisions which the government has announced so far.
Another aspect of our current work is to ask Scottish Golf to seek an extension from the government of the grant conditions so that further clubs may benefit. If you are unsure of any aspects of the current support from the Government, please do get in touch and we will try to help.
In the meantime, we trust that everyone at your club stays healthy and safe in what are difficult times for all involved.
