Unfortunately the Lothians players fortunes came to an abrupt end during the second day of knockout matches with all players losing narrowly in what were good playing conditions on the coast of Fife in the round of 16 players. The noted match was Eric McIntosh's narrow defeat to the home club player, George Burns who then progressed further to the semi final stage.

QUALIFYING AND ROUND 1 & 2
Lothians players have had a good week at the Scottish Amateur at Crail as the event reaches the third round.
Of the 45 Lothians players in the field of 255 for the stroke play qualifying, 18 reached the match play stages with pride of place going to Stuart McLaren (Bruntsfield Links) who was the leading player with a great 12 under par score of 129. He was closely followed by team mate Eric Mcintosh who was tied for second place on 130. Of particular note was a course record score of 60 on the shorter Balcomie course by David Rudd (Longniddry) and a Murrayfield family double with both Alastair & Stuart Thurlow getting through.
The first round of match play saw 10 players drop out including defending champion Euan Mcintosh (Turnhouse) and Lothians Champion Mark Napier (Turnhouse). Also dropping out in the second round were Stuart McLaren (Bruntsfield Links), Thomas Simmonds (Gullane), Stuart Thurlow (Murrayfield) and Stuart Blair (Royal Musselburgh) but only on the last green having been 3 down with 4 to play.
Angus Carrick (Craigielaw), having recently moved to the Lothians, put down a marker for the selectors with two good wins and joins Sean Marc (Broomieknowe) in the last 16 who followed an impressive victory over internationalist Kieran Cantley (Liberton) in the morning by beating the up and coming Gregor Graham (Blairgowrie) in the afternoon. Those two traded birdies in the middle of the round the most impressive of which was a shot to less than one foot at the 13th by Sean. Our other two survivors are past Scottish Boys Champions Connor Wilson (Castle Park) and Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links). Connor followed a 2/1 win in the morning with a significant 4/2 win in the afternoon. Eric was taken to the last green in the morning but was always in control in the afternoon winning 5/4.
The next two rounds are tomorrow with semi finals and final on Saturday. If you have not been to Crail it is a great all round experience and well worth a visit.
