Lothians Golf Association

Scottish Boys Championship 2019

FINAL

In a match where there was never more than one hole in it, there was some fantastic golf played with nine birdies and an eagle.

After 15 holes of the Final, the match was poised at all square with both players having been up at points in the match.

Lindsay took the advantage with a birdie on the 16th before Gallagher replied by winning the 17th to level the match once again.

With the title on the line going down 18, Lindsay secured a solid par that could not be matched by Gallagher ensuring the Belleisle member was crowned this year’s winner.

So it was Ruben Lindsay of Ayr Belleisle that was crowned Scottish Boys Amateur Champion in tense fashion with his 1-up win.

Over the week Longniddry’s Cameron Gallagher can certainly be happy and proud with his achievement, I 'm sure he'll dust himself down and move on to his next venture and all the best of luck goes to him.

SEMI FINAL

At an overcast a windy Blairgowrie GC the Semi Final match got underway with Cameron Gallagher taking on Evan Orr in the first match. Cameron was a 5&4 victor against Newmachar’s Evan Orr. After a tight start to the match, Gallagher stood on the 8th tee 1 up before four birdies in five holes saw him extend his lead and close out the match with a par on the 14th.

Cameron will play Ruben Lindsay from Ayr Belleisle in the final after his victory at the 20th hole against Andrew Thorton (Muckhart)

QUARTER FINAL

After their morning heroics, the two Lothians players came face to face in the first quarter final match and what a match they produced. Birdies were being matched at many holes and it was no surprise that the match went beyond the regulation 18 holes. After sharing birdies at the first extra hole and pars at the second it was Camaron Gallagher that managed to get himself over the line at the 21st hole. Jack McDonald can take much from his experience here and be very happy with his display over the week and being the leading player after the first round of qualifying.

We look forward to Cameron playing Evan Orr of Newmacher in Sunday's Semi Final with an 8.00am tee off. and hopefully the final later in the day.

ROUND THREE

What a great advert for golf the players produced this morning, In a real ding dong of a match Cameron Gallacher managed to keep control of his match against local boy Gregor Graham getting himself into a good position and managed to maintain his early advantage, the match went up the !8th with Gallacher holding his nerve for a 1hole victory.

It was something similar in the next match with Jack McDonald, with the match evenly poised throughout. Similarly the match progressed to the 18th with Jack managing to see it out buy 1 hole.

It the last of the Lothians players to play, young Harry Bent came up against a worthy opponent and fell behind early on which he just couldn't retrieve, however Harry did well to see the match go up the 17th in his loss of 2&1

ROUND TWO

The afternoon round got underway with the 6 strong Lothians contingent eager to chase the big prize. The match were once again keenly contested and produced some startling golf.

Unfortunately our Lothians players were reduced to three who go into the last 16. As stated the boys can be proud of their efforts with Conor O'Toole (3&2), Adam Hawthorn (2&1) and Andrew Hendry (4&3) losing out progression to the next stage.

Cameron Gallacher (won at 19th Hole), Jack McDonald (Won at 19th hole) and Harry Bent (3&2) ensuring some Lothians success. Gallagher will be up against another local favourite Gregor Graham who was the leading qualifier.

ROUND ONE

Its been a tough morning for our fourteen strong contingent who were successful in getting into the last 64.

Unfortunately only 6 survived the first round match play, however of those who have lost they did so with some very close margins and can be proud of there efforts here. Our losing players were (see below for clubs) Cameron Ledingham (4&2), Fergus Brown (19th), Valdemar Hundeboll (2&1) Archie Wyatt (2 holes), Oliver Mukherjee (1 Hole), Sam Hall (19th) Charlie Campbell (2&1) and probably the biggest shock of the day Jake Johnston (7&6)

Those who have progressed are Cameron Gallagher (6&5) and now meets another local favourite in Cormac Sharpe, Jack McDonald who will get to hit his first blows of the day after his walkover, Harry Bent who beat a fellow Gullane member at the 19th, Conor O'Toole who beat a fellow Lothians player (2&1), Adam Hawthorn who was steady throughout the morning (3&1) and Andrew Hendry who dragged himself back from 3 down to win at the 18th (1 hole)

Good Luck boys do yourself proud in the next round this afternoon (19/07/19)

QUALIFYING

It looks like all the qualifiers have the Blairgowrie home player, Gregor Graham to beat as he completed another good day of the Lansdowne Course at Blairgowrie GC with an excellent 36 hole score of 8 under. However, it is all to play for as we reach the match play stages of the competition.

Fourteen Lothians players have reached the last 64, which is a credit to the Lothians Association. Harry Bent (Gullane) was the leader of the Lothians entry with a 2 under finish, with Jack McDonald (Dunbar), the day one leader, 2 shots behind and Jake Johnston (Royal Burgess) a further one back.

Lothians will be assured two places in the last 32 with Bent taking on his club colleague Fergus Brown (Gullane) and Valdemar Hundeboll (North Berwick) taking on Conor O'Toole (Craigmillar Park) in the round 1 stage.

The other players to make the Round 1 stage of the Match play are Cameron Gallagher (Longniddry),Cameron Ledingham (Criagmillar Park), Charlie Campbell (Murrayfield), Archie Wyatt (Loretto), Oliver Mukherjee (Loretto), Adam Hawthorn (Murrayfield), Sam Hall (Craigmillar Park) and Andrew Hendry (Gullane)

The early morning start has produced an early success due to a withdrawal with Jack McDonald finding the last 32 board. Cameron Gallagher has also found an early streak of form with being 4 up in as many holes. The Association wish the boys luck in their efforts to progress.
